-This letter refers to the routine safety inspection conducted by Mr.

JA. L.'Della~Greca

of this office on August 7-11, 1989 at the Vermont. Yankee Nuclear Power Station

'of the activities. authorized by NRC License No.- DRP-28, to the discussions

- of- our findings held by Mr. Della Greca with Mr. Wanczyk and members of your

staff.at the conclusion of the inspection, and to a subsequent telephone discus-

sion between Mr. Della' Greca and your Mr. O. Phillips .on September 6,1989.

Areas examined during this inspection included your. corrective actions associated

with'previously identified equipment qualification deficiencies and are described

in the NRC Region I; Inspection Report which.is enclosed with this letter. Within

this. area,.the inspection consisted of. selective examinations of procedures and

representative' records, interviews with personnel, and observations by the;

inspector.

Your correct 10e actions'for the six violations and two.of the three open items

.were found to be acceptable and the issues are closed. However, ~your resolu-

tion for'the Thomas and Betts connector qualified life wa's determined to be

' inadequate. Therefore that item remains open.

No reply to;this letter is required. Your cooperation with us on this subject

is appreciated.
