UMERICK GENERATING STATION, UNIT 1 - REPLACEMENT SUCTION 8 TRAINERS FOR THE EMERGENCY CORE COGUNG SYSTEM (TAC NO. M99856)
Dear Mr. Edwards:
The Commission has issued the enclosed Amendment No.128 to Facility Operating Uconse No.
NPF-39 for the Limerick Generating Station, Unit 1. This amendment is in response to your application dated October 6,1997, as supplemented February 2,1998.
This amendment documents the NRC staff's approval of the implemcr,tation of a plant modification to support the installation c/ replacement suction strainers for the emergency core cooling systems at the Umerick Generating Station, Unit 1. This amendment also authorizes you, through two license conditions, to incorporate changes to the description of the facilities in the Updated Final Safety Analysis Report (UFSAR), as described in the licensee's application dated October 6,1997, as supplemented by letter dated February 2,1997, and evaluated in the enclosed safety ovaluation. As an administrative action by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC), which only involves the format of the licenses and does not authorize any activities outside the scope of your application and supplement, the NRC has amended the license to include an Appendix C, which lists additionallicense cor:ditions. Approval of this amendment through license conditions has been discussed with your staff on May 13,1998, in a conference call and your staff has agroad, by submittal dated May 13,1998, to the structure of the license for issuing these license conditions. The information in support of this modification was technically comprehensive and addressed the relevant issues. The evaluation of the proposed replacement suchon strainers for Umerick Geriorating Station Unit 2 is being deferred pending your response -
to our request for additional information with regard to Unit 2.
A copy of our safety evaluation is also enclosed. Notice of issuance will be included in the Commission's biweekly Egdatal Etnister notice.
