20555 PLANT HATCH - UNITS 1, 2 NRC DOCKETS 50-321, 50-366 OPERATING LICENSES DPR-57, NPF-5 HYDROSTATIC TESTING OF MAIN STEAM PIPING PER ASME CODE SECTION XI Gentlemen:
Georgia Power Company (GPC) respectfully withdraws its request for relief from ASME Code Section XI. requirements, submitted by letter dated January 23, 1989.
This letter requested relief from having to test the Class 2 (CL2) portion of the main steam line (MSL) piping at elevated pressure.
As stated in that letter, GPC was pursuing, in parallel, a Code Case with ASME Committee which would allow alternate testing of the CL1 and CL2 piping together at CL1 pressure.
On May 5,1989, the full ASME committee approved the Code Case and the relief request is no longer necessary.
GPC, as discussed with the NRC (L.
P.
Crocker - NRR) on May 8, 1989, will perform the hydrostatic tests on MSL piping per the approved Code Case.
