Dear Sir:
This letter is in response to the Reference 1 letter which requested our reinspection or repair plans for the Peach Bottom Atomic Power Station (PBAPS),
Unit 2 Core Spray Header Tee Box cover plate during the upcoming 2R12 outage, currently scheduled to begin in early October,1998.
Additionally, this letter provides our plans for utilizing BWRVIP-18 as the Core Spray System inspection guidance during 2R12.
l As discussed in References 2, 3, and 4, crack indications were identified on the Loop B Core Spray Header Tee Box cover plate while performing enhanced VT 1 visual examinations of the Core Spray piping during refueling outage 2R11. These inspections were being performed in accordance with BWRVIP-18, "BWR Core 4
i Spray Internals inspection and Flaw Evaluation Guidelines," EPRI TR-106740, dated July,1996.

- PEC'O Energy Company (PECO Energy) will re-inspect or repair the Loop B Core Spray Header Tee Box cover plate during 2R12. If reinspection is chosen as the preferred option, the Loop B Core Spray Header Tee Box cover plate will be inspected utilizing Ultrasonic Testing (UT). Upon completion of the reinspection, an evaluation of the flaws will be made to determine if a repair is necessary, or additional service with the identified condition is justified. Alternatively, PECO Energy may elect to repair the cover plate without reinspection. A repair for the Heacler Tee Box cover plate has been designed, in the event that the repair option is selected.
PECO Energy Company intends to continue the inspection of the Core Spray System piping in accordance with BWRVIP-18. Reference 1 provided approval for the use of BWRVIP-18 on PBAPS, Unit 2 for 2R11 (1996). For the inspections planned for 2R12, the inspection strategy, as outlined in BWRVIP-18, will be followed including inspection of the spargers. The 2R11 inspections of the Core l
l Spray System piping were the subject of the Reference 5 and 6 letters.
