TEN DAY NOTICE PERIOD FOR PUBLIC MEETINGS
Dear Mr. Callan:
As you probably recall, last year UCS raised concems about public meetings routinely being conducted

.;y the NRC with little or no notice. We were assured that actions had been taken to rectify these problems.
The purpose of this letter is to, once again, express concem about the NRC staff not following its own policies regarding public meetings. For example, I leamed today from someone living in upstate New York about a meeting scheduled for May 21,1998, in Rockville. As of May 13,1998, that meeting is not noticed on the NRC's website. Since there are fewer than 10 days until this scheduled meeting, I respectfully request that this meeting be cancelled and rescheduled with the a'ppropriate notice period.
I would also ask that you initiate another inquiry to determine how prevalent this problem remains. The recent SECY paper on public communication initiatives is pointless if the NRC won't give the public a chance to attend public meetings.
