Section 6.2 of Generic Letter 82-33 requested applicants and licensees to provide a report on their implementation of Regulatory Guide 1.97. The BWR Owners' Group responded by submitting NEDO-31558, " Position on NRC Regulatory Guide 1.97, Ruvision 3, Requirements for Post-Accident Neutron Monitoring System," which proposed attemative criteria for neutron flux k
monitoring instrumentation in lieu of the Category 1 criteria stated in the regulatory guide in a safety evaluation dated January 13,1993, the staff concluded that the criteria of NEDO-31558 was acceptable.
By letter dated August 11,1993, the staff requested Boston Edison Company (BECo) to review the Pilgrim Nuclear Power Station neutron flux monitoring instrumentation against the criteria of NEDO-31558 and document the results of the review. By letters dated October 21,1993, and April 28,1998, BECo provided the results of this review.
i The staff has completed its review of BECo's submittals and determined that the deviations from NEDO-31558 specified in the submittals are acceptable. Therefore, the post-accident neutron flux monitoring instrumentation at the Pilgrim Nuclear Power Station is an acceptable attemative to the guidance in Regulatory Guide 1.97.
