INOPERABILITY OF CHANNEL No. 7 OF THE STEAM GENERATOR 2C 4 LOOSE PARTS MONITOR SYSTEM l 1

On June 14, 1989 Channel No. 7 of the Catawba Nuclear Station Unit 2 Steam Generator 2C Vibration and Loose Parts Monitor System was declared inoperable due to a strong 60 Hz tone being present on the channel. This 60 Hz tone is probably the result of a short in the detector cable which may be causing a current ground loop.

Channel No. 10 of the Unit 2 Steam Generator 2C is operable. Therefore, a redundant channel is available for Steam Generator 2C. Work request 437690PS was written to investigate and repair the channel. Tht repair will be carried out during a future outage of sufficient duration. Thio work is to be performed during an outage due to containment entry being required to repair the channel.

The inoperability of Channel No. 7 for more than 30 days is reportable pursuant to Catawba Technical Specification 3.3.3.9. ,
