Dear Mr. Mroczka:
DJaffe
SUBJECT:
PU,00R COOLANT PUMP TRIP FOR MILLSTONE, UNIT NO. 2 TAC NO. 49658 -
For the reactor coolant pump (RCP) trip issue defined in TMI Action Plan Item II.K.3.5 (Multiplant Action G-01), the staff generically approved the Combustion Engineering Owners Group (CE0G) methodology in the Generic Letter 86-06 with the condition that plant-specific information needs to be addressed. Our review of the Millstone, Unit No. 2, plant-specific information has progressed to a degree that we can conclude that the CE0G methodology has significantly improved the reactor safety, and there are no major safety-significant concerns for the plant-specific information.
Accordingly, we have completed our review of your plant-specific RCP trip setpoint development and find it acceptable. Therefore, it is not necessary for you to respond to our letter dated October 6,1988 in which we requested additional information. This issue may be the subject of on-site verification.
Sincerely, original signed by Guy S. Vissing, Project Manager Project Directorate I-4 i
