Waterford Steam Electric Station, Unit 3, and to the discussion of our findings

with Mr. J.'R. McGaha and other members of your staf.f at the conclusion of the

l inspection.:

The' area examined during the: inspection was the service failure of the shaft'in

Chilled Water Pump B.

Within;this area, the inspection consisted of selective

examination of. procedures and representative records, interviews with personnel,,

~and observations by the NRC inspector. The inspection findings are documented-

in the enclosed-inspection. report.

Within the scope of the inspection, no violations.or' deviations'were

sidentified.-

" - One unresolved item is! identified in paragraph 2 of the enclosed inspection

report pertaining to review of the findings of the laboratory failure analysis

- and'your planned response actions.

In that the inspection has indicated a. potential concern regarding the

condition of the shafts in the remaining chilled water pumps,'we. request that

you advise this office upon your receipt of the laboratory findings.
