Dear Mr. Cahill:

This is to advise you that an environmental qualification inspection has been scheduled at the Comanche Peak site from August 7 through August 11, 1989.

This letter confirms the telephone conference call on July 17, 1989 with Veronica Cornell and Carl Weary of your staff and George Hubbard of the NRC.

A management entrance meeting is scheduled for 1:00 pm on August 7, 1989 at the plant site. A management exit meeting is tentatively scheduled for 11:00 am on August 11, 1989, also at the plant site. A plant walkdown inspection of equipment.is tentatively planned for August 9, 1989, The inspection will include the following:

1.

Review of your implementation of the environmental portions of your Equipment Qualification Corrective Action Program.

2.

Review of your implementation of a 10 CFR 50.49 program, including preservation of the qualified status of qualified equipment.

3.

Review of environmental qualification documentation files for 10 CFR 50.49 equipment, mechanical equipment located in a harsh environment, and electrical equipment located in a mild environment.

4.

Physical inspection of selected environmentally qualified equipment.

5.

Review of selected significant deficiency analysis reports (SDARs) related to environmental qualification.
