This refers to the routine safety inspection conducted by Messrs. A. G. Januska ,
.and M. C. Schumacher of this office onsite July 31 through August 4, 1989, of
activities at the Zion Nuclear Generating Station, Units 1 and 2, authorized
by NRC Operating Licenses No. DPR-39 and No. DPR-48, to the discussion of
our findings with Mr. T. Joyce and others of your ' staff at the conclusion of
the inspection on' August 4, 1989, and to the telephone: discussions with R.'Mika
on August 10,~1989 and.with D. Hemmerle on August 29,'1989.
-The enclosed ' copy of our inspection report identifies areas examined during-
the inspection. Within these areas, the inspection consisted of a selective-
examination'of procedures and representative records, observations, and
interviews with personnel..In' addition, our Mobile Laboratory was at the site
during the ' inspection' to perform independent measurements of radioactivity.
No violations of NRC requirements were identified during the course of.this
inspection
In accordance with 10 CFR 2.790 of the Commission's regulations, a copy
of-this letter and the enclosed inspection report will be placed in the
NRC-Public Document Room.
