20555 Dear Gir We undeestand that Carolina Power and Lighb Company af North Carolina has requested potmission to move spent fuel rods from the nuclear power plant in D ru n c w i c':
- County, N. C.
for storage at the Shearon-Harris plant in Chatham County, N.C.
The Lee-Chatham Concerned Citizens group' feels that this will not be a
safe movement.
The nuclear rods will travel apporximately one hundred and fifty miles through many densely po pu l a t;ed areas.
We ask to go on record as opposed to moving nuclear.. rods from Brunswick County for storage at-the.
Ghearon-Harris b.t c l e a r Plant.
In the
- past, we have felt it best to go through proper channels before raisirg a public outcry.
LCCC has stopped the construction of a
hazardous waste incinerator in Lee County by working with our IPgislators and through public meetings and demonstrations.
LCCC is a
member o f.

This is.a coalition of e n v i c o rim e n t a l organizations across North Carolina.
We are concerned about evivronmental safety throughout the state.
We believe Carolina Power and Light can and will have an alternate plan which will not endanger North Carolina citizens.
Sincerely,
