UNIT:

McGuire 2 DATE:

05/15/89 NARRATIVE

SUMMARY

l' Month: April, 1989 McGuire Unit 2 began the month of April operating at 100% full power. On 04/06 at 0502, the unit tripped off line due to Lo Lo Steam Generator level following a Feedwater Regulating Valve Positioner failure. The unit returned to service at 0123 on 04/07, and returned to 100% power at 2340 the same day following brief holds for secondary chemistry and nuclear instrumentation calibration. At 0900 on 04/14, the unit began a power reduction to 60% power to conserve the core.

Following a hold at 75% for Nuclear Instrumentation, the unit reached 60% power at 1841 the same_ day. The unit returned to 100% at 2043 on 4/25, per the Dispatcher's request, with a brief hold at 82% for Nuclear Instrumentation Cr.l i brati on.

The unit then operated at 100% power without any significant reductions, until 1800 on 4/28, when a power reduction to 60% for additional core conservation was initiated.

Following a brief hold at 767 for Nuclear Instrumentation Calibration, the unit reach 60% power, where it operated for the 4

remainder of the month for core conservation purposes.
