'SEQUOYAH NUCLEAR PLANT (SQN) - NOTIFICATION REGARDING LATE COMMITMENT FOR IMPLEMENTING' LIMITED QUALITY ASSURANCE (QA) FOR SQN'S SAFETY PARAMETER DISPLAY SYSTEM (SPDS)

Reference:

Letter from TVA to NRC. dated September 29, 1987, "Sequoyah Nuclear Plant (SQN)'- Removal of Safety Parameter Display System (SPDS)

From the Critical Structures, Systems and Components (CSSC) List" of the referenced letter contained two TVA commitments associated with.the development of a limited QA program for SQN's SPDS. Commitment Item 1 required that TVA's Nuclear Quality Assurance-Manual.be revised to identify the scope'of a limited QA program for SPDS. This commitment was completed on December 27, 1988. Commitment Item 2 required development of plant procedures to implement.the limited QA program for SQN's SPDS. This commitment was -due for completion by January 1,1989. The purpose of this

. letter is to. inform you of the late status regarding this commitment and TVA's revised. commitment completion date.

Preventative maintenance packages for implementing the limited QA requirements are being developed and are scheduled to be completed by September 15, 1989. Enclosed is TVA's revised commitment with the new completion date. Since the SPDS provides an aid to the operator and does not directly affect plant operation, the limited QA control for SQN's SPDS is not considered to be a safety concern.
