GPU Nuclear letter (No. 5000-88-1647) to the NRC dated October 14, 1988 The enclosed report (Reference 1) documents reanalyses of torus attached piping systems at Oyster Creek. This report supercedes Revision 1 which was forwarded by Reference 2.
MPR 999, Revision 1, documented the calculated stress results for two specific piping locations (location H in Figure 2.1-1; location A in Figure 2.2-2) where Code allowables were slightly exceeded for certain Mark I loading combinations. These calculated overstresses were judged co be acceptable based on known conservatism in the analysis methodology.
GPU Nuclear (GPUN) concluded there would be no actual overstresses.
The acceptability of the calculated overstresses was questioned by the NRC during Inspection 88-15.
GPUN submitted a letter dated June 1, 1988 and provided further infor nation during a meeting at the NRC Region I of fices on July 26, 1988. At the meeting, GPUN presented preliminary results of more accurate analyses indicating Code allowables are met.
MPR 999, Revision 3, enclosed, provides the results of the reanalyses. The results confirm the adequacy of our judgement concerning the overstresses calculated originally and documented in MPR 999, Revision 1.
