Subject: ' Inspection No. 50-029/89-05

This refers to the routine safety inspection conducted by Mr. M. Dev of this

office on April 3 - 7, 1989 at Yankee Nuclear Power Station,'Rowe, Massachusetts

of activities authorized by NRC License No. DPR-3 and to the discussions of our

findings held by Mr. Dev with Mr. T. Henderson of ynur staff at the conclusion

of the inspection.

Areas examined during this inspection are described in the NRC Region I

Inspection Report which is enclosed with this letter. Within these areas, the

inspection consisted of selective examinations of procedures ar.d representative

records, interview with personnel, and observations by.the inspector.

Within the scope of this inspection no violations were observed. However, your

attention is directed to the concerns discussed in paragraph 2.0 of the report.

Your actions to resolve the NRC previous' inspection finding (50-029/85-12-02)

concerning Generic Letter (GL) 83-28, Item 2.2.2, Vendor. Interface, and to

implement corrective actions have been protracted. Additional management

attention appears warranted to ensure timely completion of licensee

commitments.
