Dear Dr. Murley:
Reference (a) provided Commonwealth Edison's (Edison) committment to perform a test to determine air infiltration into the control room envelope when the control room is placed in the isolation mode. The first test was performed in January, 1988.
The next test was required to be performed, in July, 1989.
1 Reference (b) provided Edison's evaluation which shows that-alternative I
measures exist to demonstrate control room integrity other than performing an "In leakage" test.
This submittal is currently under NRC staff review.
Since the NRC review is ongoing, reference (c) requested that the next "in leakage" test be deferred, so that it could be performed during the Braidwood Unit i refuel outage, currently scheduled to start on September 4, 1989.
j Reference (d) provide the NRC Staff acceptance of this deferral request.
Performing the test during the Unit 1 outage will allow it to be performed with p
Unit 1 in Modes 5 or 6 and reduce the impact of performing the test with two Units in Mode 1.
This will give the station greater flexibility to successfully perform the ter,t.

The purpose of-this letter is to provide the NRC Staff a draft copy of-
- Braidwood Station procedure SPP-89-9, " Control Room Boundry'Inleakage Test"'that prescribes'the methodology that will be utilized.- The test-is scheduled to be
- performed in September, 1989, during the Unit 1 outage.
- -This is being submitted for NRC review and information in conjunction with the, review of reference (b).
