Inspection 50-320/89-03
This refers to the. routine safety inspection conducted'by site inspectors from
March 5 to April 21, 1989, of activities authorized by NRC License No. DPR-73
and to discussions of our findings held by Mr. T.- Moslak, of our office, with
you and other members of your staff on April 21, 1989.
Based on the results of
this_ inspection, the inspectors identified no conditions adverse to nuclear
_,
safety or regulatory requirements.
l
During this inspection, we noted an increase in the loose surface contamination
levels in the work areas of the. reactor building. We attribute this to the
nature _ of the ongoing work of removing equipment and materials from the reactor -
vesse1. Because of this type work, the potential exists for the exposure of
personnel to hot radioactive particles.
No significant safety or radiological
events have resulted from this increased contamination. We understand that you
are taking actions to improve conditions and work practices. We consider these
actions acceptable and will continue to monitor your progress in the effective
management of the hot particle control program.
No response to this report is required. Your cooperation with us is appreci-
ated.
