Dear Mr. MacDonald:

Duke Power Company presently plans to ship eight irradiated fuel rods from the Oconee Nuclear Station to the Babcock and Wilcox Lynchburg Research Center at some time during September, 1989. This will be a single shipment with the NLI-1/2 spent fuel shipping cask.

We are informed tnat although we have current (November 30, 1988) approval for an existing route, Transportation Branch policy requires us to submit the route for update. The route is as follows:

South Carolina Oconee Nuclear Station. SC-130 south to US-123 7 7 miles

2. US-123 east to US-76 6.4 miles

3. US-76 south to I-85 11.2 miles

4. I-85 northeast to I-26 52.0 miles

5. I-26 north to North Carolina State Line ,

19.0 miles Oubtotal 96.3 miles North Carolina

6. I-26 north to I-40 42.0 miles

7. I-40 east to I-77 107.0 miles )
