Dear Mr. Zech:
As you will note from the attached, one of my constituents has expressed concern that the Unit 1 reactor of the San Onofre nuclear power plant will soon be started even though problems seem to have been identified with bolts on a thermal shield.
Because you are the Federal regulatory agency of this facility, it would be appreciated if you could comment as to the efficacy of these problems and advise my office as to what is taking place to correct this situation.
Thank you for your insight in this matter.

Dear Senator Craven,
I recently became very concerned upon reading an article about the San Onofre nuclear power plant.
According to the Los Angeles Times, the Unit I reactor uill soon be started up, despite recognized problems with bolts on a thermal sheild.
While I am certainly no expert, the problem sounds serious to me!
Apparently the plant can save some money by putting off the needed repairs.
It seems terribly wrong to spare the necessary expense now, while risking the lives and safety of many thousands of people.
Please get tough with the people at SDCSE and the Nuclear Regulatory Commission.
Let them know that we do not want them sambolinn with our safety, to increase the profits of their share holders!
Sincerely,
}{
