Thank you for your letter dated June 14, 1989, informing us of the steps you
.have taken to correct the~ violation that we brought to your attention in our
letter dated May 12, 1989.
,We-have reviewed your response to violation 461/89003-01 and consider the-
response acceptable for examples D and E.-
However, based on our telephone

conversations with Messrs. Holtzscher, Wilson, and others of your staff, on
June 29 and 30, 1989,~we understand that you will provide an amended response
by July 21, 1989, which addresses the following:

1.
Overall action taken by management to ensure or'substantially improve
procedural compliance at the Clinton Power Station.

2.
iAdditional action to be taken on the first example of the violation,
(461/89003-01A) to ensure that current revisions to documents are included
in MWR packages and that work is performed in accordance with them. We
understand that this amended response will include:
evaluation of a computerized system to track document utilization /

location to allow for periodic review and updating of their
currency.

a schedule for development and implementation of the new computerized

tracking system.
the procedures that will.be used in the interim

A clarification of the sequence of events involved with the second and
third examples of the violation, 461/89003-01B and 461/89003-01C, including

pertinent details that describe how procedural requirements were met.
Based on information supplied by telephone in the referenced conversations,
and acceptable additional clarifications, we will rescind examples B and C
of this violation. Please note that the information supplied in your response
and in'the telephone conversations was not consistent with the information
provided to the inspector and the inspection team during the inspection.
Adequate investigation and clarification of these issues by your staff at
that time could have avoided unnecessary discussions and paper work.

Although the information provided in the response to the last example of the
violation, 461/89003-OlF, appears to differ from that supplied to the inspector
during previous discussions, we consider the response acceptable.
We will examine these matters further during a future inspection.
