L This letter acknowledges your letter of April 12, 1989, and advises you that Mr. Edward Tomlinson is planning to attend the meeting of Fairbanks Morse OP 38TD 81/8 Nuclear Eroergency Generator owners on May 23 and 24,1989.

Mr. Tomlinson is a licensed diesel engineer with extensive experience on 1 Fairbanks Morse and other medium-speed diesel engines in both commercial and nuclear operations. His NRR staff activities include diesel generator incident investigation; participation in revision of Regulatory Guide 1.9, " Selection, Design, Qualification, Testing, and Reliability of Diesel Generator Units as Onsite Electric Power System at Nuclear Powc Plants;" assignment as the cognizant diesel generator reviewer for the Technical Specification Improvement Program; and Lead Project Manager for Generic Letter 84-15 issues " Proposed Staff Actions to Improve and Maintain Diesel Generator Reliability." In addition, Mr. Tomlinson has worked with other diesel generator owners groups and is the NRR representative to the ANS Diesel Generator Standards (ANS-59.5X)

Working Group. I am confident that Mr. Tomlinson can provide good insight on the NRC's current position regarding diesel generators.
