~ Docket Nos.. 50-369, 370 4D, Inspection Report Nos.;369', 370/89-11' i.j:.

Notice of Corrective Action Delay.

Gentlemen:

In.my letter of July-5,.1989'I informed you.that corrective actions for Example.1; of. Violation 369, 370/89-11 wo'ld be complete by August 1, 1989.

u Under part 4, "The ' corrective steps which will be,taken to avoid future -

-violations:", we stated that." Operations would evaluate the operational procedure Efor residual heat removal to include an evaluation.of periodic vent requirements

'of the ND System and interconnecting piping to reflect operating precautions for

.mid-loop:and normal operations."

We ar) continuing to evaluate the procedure especially during drain-down to lmid-loop operations. We have performed c. valuations and venting during our first experience with mid-loop operations following the incident, and we consider it' prudent'to continue the evaluation for the proper vents and the proper frequency at which to vent.

During our ongoing evaluation we have found air accumulations in the piping.

apparently. caused by vortexing. -We are continuing.to. gather data and evaluate the situation on why (and exactly where) we're getting air accumulations and what we can do to eliminate the problem.

We'therefore request that.the commitment date be extended from its current date of August 1, 1989 to September 30, 1989.

.This extension will allow us to complete the evaluation during the present Unit 2.-

refueling outage and revise our procedures accordingly.

.-Yours very truly,.
