SUBJECT:
COMANCHE PEAK' STEAM ELECTRIC STATION'(CPSES);
cDOCKET NOS. 50-445-AND 50-446 DESIGN OF ARCHITECTURAL FEATURES SDAR:
CP-85-29'(SUPPLEMENTAL REPORT)
Gentlemen:
0' September 12, 1985.. by letter logged TXX-4552. TU Electric notified the NRC' n
of a deficiency. involving non-seismic to seismic interaction effects: in the-
' design of. architectural-features. The last report on this subject was logged-
.TXX-88171,--dated February 4, 1988. The purpose of this, letter is to revise'
.the status-and scope of the corrective action.
' TXX-88171 identified several ' architectural features which were evaluated to assure adequate seismic restraint.
In addition to those features listed-in
- TXX-88171,: acoustical blanksiinLthe control room ceiling were also evaluated.
'No= modifications were. required ~to the acoustical blanks as a result of.this-evaluation.
"TXX-88173 also stated that all archit'ctural items complied with Regulatory.
e Guide (RG) 1.29.
Although most-of the Seismic Category I and II architectural
-features evaluated meet the intent of RG 1.29 without modifications, some handrails, grating and checkered plates require modifications in order to meet-l the intent of RG'1.29.
Additionally, the following corrective actions are being (or have been) h implemented to address non-architectural items which are included in the scope of this SDAR.

Seismic and thermal displacement of Class 5 piping.is being evaluated to assure that there are no unacceptable interactions with safety related equipment. Piping walkdowns are being performed for g
Unit 1 and, where required, design modifications are being L
implemented.

2)
Cable hung light fixtures were evaluated for interaction with safety i
related equipment due to light fixture horizontal swing. Walkdowns were performed for Unit 1 utilizing validated displacement criteria.
No modifications were required as a result of the walkdown.

A calculation was performed to' assure the structural ' integrity of unistret frames used to support light fixtures.
Results of the calculation indicate that the frames are structurally acceptable.
The following non-architectural items are not included in the scope of this SDAR since they are addressed.in other SDARs.
1)
Trair. C junction boxes (SDARs CP-85-34 and CP-85-36).
2)
Relative building motion and commodities attached to secondary walls
'(SDAR CP-86-12).
3)
Use of nomographs in the design of Class 5 piping (SDAR CP-87-062).
The estimated date for completion of the Systems Interaction Program (SIP) has been revised.
SIP and the remaining Unit I corrective action for this deficiency will be completed prior to Unit I fuel load. The corrective action for Unit 2 will be assessed after resumption of the balance of Unit 2.
engineering activities.
