SUBJECT:

, EXAMINATION. REPORT, ARKANSAS NUCLEAR ONE,; UNIT 2 (AN0 2)

'On August l 3 '1989', NRC administered examinations to employees'of your.

i company who had applied forisenior. reactor: operator upgrade licenses to l

-operate.your ANO 2 facility. On July 25,,1989, the Unit 2 training supervisor

. reviewed the written examination in the Region IV offices. ' The examination 1

keys-were provided,to facility stiff personnel'at the time of examination 0,

administration'.: Three of four-applicants passed all parts ofethese, examinations. 'One applicant failed the written. examination only.

Th' performance on the written examination was marginal and provided e

i indication of declining senior operator applicant performance.. The NRC.

l 1

concludes that safe plant. operation-is not challenged at this time and that the.overall; examination performance results are satisfactory.. However, we

'have a. concern over the downward trend' indicated by the last two senior -

operator license. examinations.

o NoLformal" response to this report is required, but NRC representatives will' c review actions taken'or planned on this performance trend by facility licensee i;

staff in future site visits.. Should you have any questions concerning this, letter, please contact us.
