Fort Calhoun Station Radiation Protection Enhancement Program, Bi-Monthly Status Report Omaha'Public Power District (0 PPD) committed in Reference 2 to provide a bi-monthly status of the Radiation Protection Enhancement Program for the Fort Calhoun Station.
Please find attached a summary of the program activities for the months of June and July 1989. The Radiation Protection Enhancement Program is on schedule.

NOTE:
SEP Reference Item 54 is on schedule for completion by September 30, 1989.

Procedure Development A total of.230 procedures were identified to support the Radiation Protection Enhancement Program. Of these procedures 193 were PRC approved on or before July 31, 1989, completing SEP reference item 51.
Thirteen procedures were delayed awaiting receipt or installation of equipment.
Procedure development is ending and training and/or implementation is beginning.

Trainina Training has begun on the administrative and implementing procedures associated with the Radiation Protection Enhancement Program.
Implementation of the program is anticipated by September 30, 1989.
The Contamination Control Group completed training on RW-514, Operation of the NLB Hydrolaser, on July 28, 1989.
Respiratory Protection received training on HP-46 (RP-508 under the Radiation Protection Enhancement Program), Quantitative Condensation Nucleus Counter.

- 4.. Equipment
. During the June-July timeframe,. the Respiratory Protection Group received Delmonox air manifolds, curn oil mask seal tester, and two BC-4s and SAC-4s for mask surveys. The group has evaluated and returned a bid package for an air. compressor which will.be utilized for filling SCBA's. Each of the aforementioned items is necessary for the development and/or implementation i.:
of procedures associated with the Radiation Protection Enhancement Program.
Rad-Waste, Contamination Control, Instrumentation, ALARA, Respiratory L
Protection,' and Radiological Engineers moved into temporary facilities
. which will house their operations until the new Chemical and Radiation Protection.- Locker Facility is completed. These new locations provide adequate space and facilities required to establish the individual programs.
r NVLAP-testing has begun on the previously acquired Panasonic TLD system.
Thermoluminescent dosimeters were sent to an offsite laboratory to initiate the " blind testing".

Organization and Staffina Offers have been accepted for the remaining vacant positions.

anticipated that staffing by OPPD personnel will be completed by September, 1989.
Summary All.non-reserved status procedures identified to support the Radiation Protection Enhancement Program were PRC approved on'or before July 31, 1989.
By doing so, the Radiation Protection Department has completed SEP Reference Item 51 on schedule.
The Radiation Protection Enhancement Program has entered the training and implementation stage, scheduled for completion by September 30, 1989 as per SEP Keference Item 54.
