' Nine Mile Point Unit 1 Restart Action Plan In December 1987, the Nine Mile Point, Unit 1 Nuclear Power Plant' was manually shut' down as a. result' of.a~ technical problem encountered during routine oper-ations. As a result of.this technical problem, and other technical - and pro-grammatic.~. problems ' identified by itself and -by the-Nuclear Regulatory Commission. (NRC) staff, the Niagara Mohawk Power Corporation elected to main-tain the plant. in a-shutdown condition while those problems were addressed and -
resolved. The NRC determined that it would require the utility to develop a formal Plan. to address -those problems and forward that Plan to-the NRC staff for review 'and approval.. Subsequently,.the utility submitted a document : titled the2 Nine Mile. Point,' Unit ~1 Restart Action Plan, to identify those actions to-be completed prior'to.the restart of the facility.
In Lthe ' interest of affording local and state ~ officials and members of the public an opportunity to participate in the Plan review -process, the - NRC has
. scheduled a meeting to receive public comments on the Utility's Plan.
This' meeting is scheduled - for August 23,1989, from 7:00 p.m. to.9:00 p.m., at the Oswego Middle School, Oswego, New York.
For those interested. people who are not able to' attend this meeting, written comments may be submitted to me by August _24, 1989, at the following address:
