This relates to information NRC Headquarters received regarding potential

violence at the Clinton Nuclear. Power Plant. This information was forwarded to you during a telephone conversation between Mr. J. R. Creed of our staff and Mr. 'O. Smith 'of your staff on August 2,1989...A copy of a mailgram;containing the relevant information was telecopied to Mr. Smith for your etaluation on-
August'2, 1989, and is attached to this letter.

The information contained in the mailgram and recent vandalism incidents that have occurred near the plant should be evaluated in accordance with your 'd existing. security plans and procedures and an appropriate level of security maintained commensurate with your evaluation. We understand that an increased

. state of' security awareness has been implemented at your facility .in order to be.able to respond to potential violence that may occur on plant. property. .We also understand that you have advised the local law enforcement agency and -

-local Federal Bureau of Investigation office of the information concerning the potential violence.

'We request that you advise us of any acts of violence that occur and are directed against plant property or plant employees. Mr. Creed (312-790-5643) is'available to discuss this matter further with you if questions arise.
