License Amendment Application to Revise the Inspection Interval for the Emergency Diesel Generators (TAC Number 73243)
Gentlemen:
The enclosed application requests that the Davis-Besse Nuclear Power Station, Unit No. 1 Operating License, Appendix A, Technical Specifications be revised to reflect the changes attached. The proposed changes involve Section 3/4.8.1.1, A. C. Sources - Operating, Surveillance Requirement 4.8.1.1.2 and Section 3/4.8.1.2, Electrical Power Systems - Shutdown, Surveillance Requirement 4.8.1.2.
These surveillance require that at least.once per 18 months each emergency diesel generator be inspected by procedures prepared in conjunction with its manufacturer's recommendations. This request proposes to extend the inspection interval from 18 months to 30 months. The proposed change also deletes the applicability of the extension provisions of Specification 4.0.2 from this surveillance. This increased inspection interval has been reviewed and concurred in by the emergency diesel:
generator's manufacturer.
The inspection of each emergency diesel generator requires approximately one week to perform. The next due date for performing the inspection under the present Technical Specification is January 8, 1990.
Since this inspection can only be performed during an extended shutdown period and the sixth refueling outage is presently scheduled to commence on February 1, 1990, the issuance of this amendment is necessary to support continued plant operation during Cycle 6.
