Gentlemen:
This transmits the April B to May 17, 1989, routine inspection findings of
Mr. C. Holden, Mr. R. Freudenberger and Mr. K. Heitner, at the Maine Yankee
Atomic Power Plant, Wiscasset, Maine.
Those findings were based on observa-
tions of activities, interviews, and document reviews, and have been discussed
with Dr. Boulette of your staff.
Within the scope of this inspection, no violations were observed. Two issues
which need your attention are identified in +his report.
For one item, the
.
applicable standard for verification and validation of the microprocessor based
Primary Inventory Trend System, a meeting with our NRR staf f appears to be war-
ranted.
We understand that the second item, uncertainties in Subcooling
Margin Monitor system instrument inaccuracies, is being addressed in a proced-
bre setpoint upgrade currently in progress.
