l On March 10, 1988 and June 13, 1988, Carolina Power & Light Company submitted requests for license amendment concerning radioactive effluent monitoring instrumentation for the Brunswick Steam Electric Plant (BSEP),
Units 1 and 2.
On January-31, 1989, the NRC issued Generic Letter 89-01 concerning implementation of programmatic controls for radiological effluent Technical Specifications (RETS) and the relocation of procedural ~ details of RETS to the Offsite Dose Calculation Manual or to the Process Control Program. The Company is currently evaluating implementation of Generic

Letter 89-01.
If CP&L determines implementation of the Generic Letter is feasible, the amendment requests referenced above will no longer be necessary.
Based upon discussions with the NRC Project Manager for BSEP, CP&L hereby l
withdraws the requests for license amendment referenced above, pending a l
decision on implementation of Generic Letter 89-01.
If CP&L concludes that
- i implementation of Generic Letter 89-01 is not feasible, these amendment requests will be updated and resubmitted.
