Docket ~No. 50-317 April 11, 1989 Summary of Operating Experience MARCH 1989 Unit 1 began the month at 100% power (865 MWeNET).
On March 2. power was reduced to begin a scheduled main-tenance outage to replace #11B RCP Shaft Seal with a new design.
The Unit was removed from the grid March 3 at 0420 and the reactor was shutdown manually.
i on March 26 Plant heat-up was commenced and the reactor was critical on March 28.
The generator was paralleled at 0024 on the following morning.
Escalation to full power was delayed for repairs to #16 Feedwater Heater Level Control Valve.
At 1200 the escalation to full power was begun.
Later that evening high sulfates were discovered in the Reactor Coolant System (RCS) samples. The unit load was-reduced at 1905, removed from the grid at 2135 and the reactor was manually shutdown.
An investigation was begun to determine the cause of the high sulfates in the RCS and to cleanup tha primary system.
Unit 1 ended the month shutdown for approximately ten days.

Calvert Cliffs Unit 2 Docket No. 50-318 April 11, 1989 Summary of Operating Experieqce MARCH 1989 Unit 2 began the month at 100% power (861 MWeNET).
On March 7 power was reduced to recover from a partial loss of Condenser vacuum.
Power was stabilized at 760 MWeNET and escalation commenced.
At 1555 power was reduced to repair a leaking air regulator on #22 Feedwater Regulating Valve.
The unit was removed from the grid at 1838 and the reactor was manually shutdown.
On March 8 the reactor was critical at 2320 and the generator was paralleled to the grid at 0547.
Power escalation was held at 30% for chemistry but was released later and achieved 100% (862 MWeNET) at 2200.
On March 17 power was reduced due to an increasing leak on
- 22 Steam Generator Blowdown piping causing a high Containment sump drain frequency.
The unit was removed from the grid at 0540 and the reactor was manually shutdown.
The start date for the scheduled Eighth Cycle Refueling was moved up in order to conduct as-found testing and to begin the outage.
Unit 2 ended the month shutdown for the refueling outage planned for 65 days.
