Gentlemen:
On January 6,1989, Carolina Power & Light Company (CP&L) submitted a request for relief from certain requirements of the ASME Code for the Brunswick Steam Electric Plant, Units 1 and 2.
Specifically, the request involved a one' time, 90 day extension of the two year testing.
requirement of IWV-3610 for the Traversing Incore Probe (TIP) shear valves.
As discussed with the NRC Project Manager on March 30, 1988, CP&L has received and implernented the General Electric recommended mo.*ifications to the actuation circuitry for traversing incore probe (TIP) shear valves. These recommendations were provided in Service Information Letter (SIL) 479 dated January 23, 1989. The required testing of the TIP shear valves was satisfactorily performed for Unit 1 on March 15,
~1989'and for Unit 2 on March 29, 1989.
