-Preface 1

On' January 20, 1988, a small amount of noble gases (primarily Xe-133)'was released into the clean Vaste Receiver Tank 1-1 area as the result of a gas:

sampling tube becoming dislodged from.its fitting. The noble gases were discharged via the station vent and were fully monitored. The total amount of l~ ' radioactivity released was approximately 1.0 curie of Xe-133. This is less than 1% of the total noble gas released in 1988. 'This-release resulted in an offsite dose of less than 0.001 millirem during the entire. release, which is only 0.000%

of the limits for!whole body exposure due to noble gases.-

l Due to the extremely small quantity of radioactivity involved, this was not reported as a release in the' Semiannual Effluent and Waste Disposal Report for January 1 through' June 30,.1988.

This addendum incorporates this release. . The changes in the Supplemental Information Section (Abnormal Releases and Percent of Technical Specifications Limits) and the Effluent Data Tables-(Gaseous Effluents-Summation of all Releases and Gaseous Effluents - Mixed Mode Releases) are included in this addendum. Due to the extremely small dose associated with this release, there were no changes to the dose tables.

The data from this release were included in the Semiannual Report for the period of Jaly 1 through December:31,- 1988.

L ABNORMAL RELEASES-l 1. .On January 20,.1988 a. Chemistry Lab Tester sampled:the Clean Vaste Receiver Tank (CVRT) 1-1 for daily gas analysis. At 1900,.the Radvaste Exhaust Monitor, RE5405A, alarmed. 'At approximately 1920, a Radiological Controls

. Tester entered the CVRT 1-1 room and discovered the tygon tubing used for sampling had become dislodged from its fitting within the local isolation

~

~

. valve. As a result, a very small amount of noble gases (primarily Xe-133). .

were released into the CVRT 1-1 area. .The tygon tubing was reconnected at approximately'.1920.

l The noble gases were. discharged via'the station' vent and were fully monitored. A maximum concentration of.5.0E-06 pCi/cc was measured at approximately 1837. . The average concentration'of 2.0E-06 pCi/cc.is used to determine the-total released activity based on a release duration of 110 minutes. .This duration is interpreted from.the monitor. data, based on a.

noticeable rise in Xe-133 concentration'at 1800 and a decrease'at 1950. -The total' amount of radioactivity released is approximately 1.0 curie of Xe-133.

This resulted in an offsite dose of less than 1.0E-03 millirem during the entire releare. Per Section 3.11.2.1 and'3.11.2.2 of the Davis-Besse Technical Specifications, no limit was. exceeded.- This release was only 2.0E-03% of the limit for whole body _ exposure..
