A.; T NARRATIVE
SUMMARY
OF OPERATING EXPERIENCE
' Docket No.
50-266 Unit Name Point Beach' Unit 1 Date June 7, 1989
- Completed By C. W. Krause Telephone 414/221-2001 Unit 1 began the report period shut down for the annual refueling
.and maintenance outage.
On April 24 the upper internals were set, and the control rods were latched.
The head was set on April 25.
On May 6, with the reactor coolant system solid, heatup was commenced.
On May 11 a~1eak was discovered on the pressurizer manway, and the system had to be cooled down and depressurized in order to repair the leak.
After the leak was repaired, heatup recommenced.
Hot rod drop testing was performed on May 14, and the reactor went critical on May 15.
The generator was phased to the system grid on May 16 with the exception of a one-hour period for the performance of overspeed testing.
The unit has been on line since.
Other. outage-related work includes a station battery (D06)
' discharge test and a loss of offsite power and safety injection test. ~ Replacement.of the DOS station battery was also completed.
Two Licensee Event Reports (LERs) were issued during the period.
LER 89-005-00 described an event where the Low Temperature overpressure Protection (LTOP) system was inoperable using nitrogen gas as an operating gas.
LER 89-006-00 described an event where a Lo-Lo water level signal from the "A" steam generator in Unit 1 caused the motor-driven auxiliary feedwater pumps to start.
At the time of occurrence, the unit was shut down for refueling.
