Subject:
Catawba Nuclear Station Docket Nos. 50-413 and 50-414
.NRC Inspection Report Nos 50-413, 414/88-34 Revised Reply to Notice of Violation l
My December 15, 1988 response to the third example of the subject Notice of Violation indicated the actions to be teken to avoid further violations would.
be complete by June 1, 1989. Please be advised actions have been taken as described below to address the specific issue of the violation. However to j
address the broader issue of providing this information to the operators in a more " user-friendly" approach will require additional time. Therefore we are extending the time period to complete our corrective actions for this violation to November 1, 1989.
The extra time for completing t.his corrective action will allow for the information from Operations Management Procedure (OMP) 2-29 to be incorporated into our Technical Specifications Interpretation Manual. "Information Only" copies of the data from OMP 2-29 will be on shift before July 14, 1989. One period of Operator Requalification training will be used to train the operators on the use and format of the information as well as to solicit comments on the new application of this data. Upon completion of the training
.l and resolution of the comments, these new interpretations will be included in the Interpretations Manual.
2 Please be advised the ambiguous wording, concerning the requirements of the Diesel Generator Air Start (VG) System that are required to consider the i
Diesel Generators operable, has already been changed.
It now states "as long l
as starting air tank pressure is greater than 235 psig the compressors are not needed for Diesel Generator operability." This clarifies the conditions for Diesel Generator operability as it relates to the VG subsystem.
Very truly yours, k f}
