In Reference 1, NextEra Energy Duane Arnold (NEDA) provided formal notification of the intention to permanently cease power operations at the Duane Arnold Energy Center (DAEC) in the fourth quarter of 2020. In Reference 2, NEDA supplemented that letter pursuant to 10 CFR 50.82(a)(1)(i) and 10 CFR 50.4(b)(8), providing the date of October 30, 2020 on which NEDA planned to permanently cease power operation of DAEC.

On August 10, 2020 the DAEC was shut down in response to a derecho storm that struck the DAEC and surrounding area. Upon review, NEDA has determined that DAEC will remain shut down and begin the decommissioning process. Therefore, NEDA is revising the date provided in Reference 2 and certifies to the NRC that DAEC permanently ceased power operations on August 10, 2020.

In Reference 3, NEDA submitted the DAEC Post Shutdown Decommissioning Activities Report (PS DAR) pursuant to 10 CFR 50.82(a)(4). Based on current assessments, the revised date of shutdown will not change the method of decommissioning or significantly change the decommissioning schedule described in the PSDAR. NEDA continues to evaluate the decommissioning schedule and will provide an updated PSDAR if significant changes are identified.
