EQUIPMENT QUALIFICATION INSPECTION - FERMI 2 NUCLEAR PLANT This letter confirms the dates of September 21-25, 1987, for the NRC Environmental Qualification (EQ) Inspection of electrical and instrumentation equipment, at the Fermi Nuclear Station.
These dates were established during a September 3,1987, telephone conversation between Mr. S. Cashell of your staff and Mr. A. S. Gautam of my staff.
The inspection will be performed by a six member inspection team with Mr. A. S. Gautam of the Region III office as lead inspector.
The following areas will be inspected:
Implementation of corrective action commitments addressed in the final Fermi EQ Safety Evaluation Report.
Compliance to EQ regulations of 10 CFR 50.49, including Program Procedures, Master Equipment List, Maintenance, Procurement, Upgrading of Replacement Equipment, Quality Assurance and Employee Training.
Adequacy of equipment qualification files, including responses to relevant NRC Information Notices and Bulletins.
Installation and maintenance of selected plant EQ equipment.
A management entrance meeting is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. on September 21, 1987, at the plant site. A plant walkdown inspection of selected EQ equipment is scheduled for September 23, 1987, and an NRC exit meeting is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. on September 25, 1987. To facilitate NRC preparation for this inspection Mr. Cashell of your staff was requested during the September 3,1987 telephone conversation to submit the following EQ documents no later than September 11, 1987.

Overview of EQ documentation file organization such as how files address meeting EQ criteria (10 CFR 50.49, DOR, NUREG-0588), instrument accuracy, and submergence.
Arrangements for plant walkdown (the NRC team leader will identify selected equipment samples at the entrance).
Your cooperation with us during this inspection will be appreciated.
In particular please arrange to have all inspectors escorted as visitors to avoid delays due to formal radiation training.
