Gentlemen:-

VIRGINIA ELECTRIC AND POWER COMPANY' NORTH ANNA POWER STATION UNITS 1 AND 2 ANNUAL RADIOLOGICAL ENVIRONMENTAL OPERATING REPORT

~ Attached is a revised copy of the Annual Radiological Environmental Operating

) Report for North Anna Power Station which was originally subm.tted d on April 30, 1987 (Serial No.87-240) in accordance with Technical Specification 6.9.1.8p A summary listing of the specific changes made to the 1986 report is

. also provided as an attachment.

.The majority .of the changes resulted from typographical errors which did not significantly. alter the data. 110 wever , the main oversight discovered by Virginia Electfic and Power Company was that the analyses for radiofodine in well water, sur'fvce water, and food products failed to meet the Lower Limit of Detection (LLD) required by Technical' Specification Table 4-12-3. . Contrary to Section 6.9.1.8 of the North Anna' Technical' Specifications, a discussion of these analyses was not included in the 1986 Radiological Environmental Operating Report.

Measures have been taken to improve the performance in report generation and enhance the quality control of our program.

-Very truly yours, W. L. Stewart Attachment 9709110407 870909 7 N PDR ADOCK 05000338 P \ \

10. For each of the LLDs which were not achieved for the radioiodine analyses

. performed on river water, surface water, .and food product samples, the reason why the LLD ' was not met has been documented in the appropriate report tables (Tables 12, 17, and 27). The explanation.for the failure-to meet the required LLDs is included in Section 3 of the report and the

-appropriate samples have been added to the ?EMP Exceptions Table.
