- s ANNUNCIATORS A detailed review of the currently installed annunciators has been conducted by engineering support personnel. The review was conducted following guidelines developed with the support of Dr. M. E. Maddox of Search Technology, Inc., the human factors specialist for the CRDR. The results and recommendations are currently being reviewed by the Fe.rley Nuclear Plant Operations Staff.
Following the Farley Nuclear Plant Staff review, designers will be tasked with evaluating design changes to implement the corrective action.
The recommended design changes will subsequently be reviewed by Alabama Power Company and the desired changes made.
Goal s 06-01 Farley Nuclear Plant Staff complete review.
08-01 Designers complete development of conceptual designs and cost estimates.
10-01 Design changes selected for implementation.
01-15 Design changes ready for Unit 2, sixth refueling outage.
07-15 Design changes ready for Unit 1, ninth refueling outage.

4 SOUND POWERED PHONES Alabama Power Company surveyed sources of sound powered phone equipment. No systems were identified which provided any significant benefits over the system currently installed at Farley Nuclear Plant. Based on the equipment survey and a review of the maintenance history for the communications system, the current j
- sound powered phone system is adequate. Consequently, Farley Nuclear Plant will
. continue to utilize the current system.
LIGHTING Due to conflicts between the NUTAC and NUREG+B100 guidelines concerning required l
lighting levels, Alabama Power Canpany developed a lighting standard for Farley Nuclear Pl ant. The plant-specific lighting standard was developed following the' 111uminating Engineering Society (IESI of. North America recommendations contained in the IES Handbook. Following its development, the lighting standard was reviewed by Dr. M. E. Maddox of Search Technology, Inc.
l Subsequent to the development of the standard and following corrective maintenance in the control room, a second lighting survey was conducted. The survey indicated that normal and emergency lighting levels in the Farley Nuclear Plant Control Room are adequate.

FECORDING DEVICES A detailed review of the currently installed recorders has been conducted by engineering. support personnel. The review included a survey of the control room and operator interviews. The review was conducted following guidelines developed with the support of Dr. M. E. Maddox of Search Technology, Inc., the human factors specialist for the CRDR. Concurrently, twenty-one recorder manufacturers were requested to provide information on their strip-chart recorders. Engineering support personnel are currently reviewing that information.
Following the review of available recorders, Farley Nuclear Plant operators and maintenance technicians udll be provided an opportunity to observe-the operation of selected recorders.
Based on the observed operation and the Farley Nuclear Plant. Staff comments, a determination will be made as' to whether installed recorders should be replaced.
Goal 06-01 Farley Nuclear Plant Staff complete review of available recorders. 01 Comparison of existing recorders versus available recorders compl eted.
09-01 Desired changes forwarded to designers for development of resol utions.
02-01 Design changes ready for implementation.

DESIGN CONVENTIONS Design conventions were developed in order to maintain the level of human f actors engineering incorporated into the Farley Nuclear Plant Control Room.
These conventions were developed based on NUTAC requirements, NUREG-0700 guidelines, CRDR Control Room survey results, discussions with the Farley Nuclear Plant Staff, and discussions with Dr. M. E. Maddox, the human factors specialist for the CRDR. The design conventions were provided to the designers on July 1,1987 for guidance in developing design changes which affect the main control no om.
PROCEDURE MODIFICATIONS Most of the procedure changes necessary to resolve discrepancies identified in the CRDR Summary Report have been completed. Due to the manpower associated with extensive environmental qualification investigations and upgrades as well as additional outages for both Unit 1 and Unit 2, procedure changes associated with HED 207 have not been completed.
It is expected that procedure changes required to resolve HED 207 will be completed by July 29, 1988.
