MEMORANDUM FOR:
Scott McNeil Project Manager PWR Project Directorate #8 Division of_PWR-Licensing-B, NRR FROM:
Donald Solberg Reactor Systems Branch Division of Reactor System Safety RES
SUBJECT:
REQUESTED INPUT FROM CALVERT CLIFFS STAFF In order for us to complete a study supporting NRC reevaluation of B&W plant-safety, we need some support from the Calvert Cliffs plant staff. Our minimal needs are presented in the enclosure. The data will be used to construct' necessary analysis models of Calvert Cliffs for a comparison of plant responses and demands placed on safety equipment and operating staff for comparable transients in representative plants of the three PWR vendors.
In our telephone conversation with the Calvert Cliffs staff, I also-agreed to take actions defined in the enclosure.
If I or my contractor can be of further help in this matter, please call me.
I appreciate your help and the cooperation of the 'Calvert Cliffs ~ staff for the rapid response provided to our request. This schedule is necessary for us to meet NRC's schedule for B&W reevaluation.

Mr. J. A. Tiernan Vice President-Nuclear Energy Baltimore Gas & Electric Company P. O. Box 1475 Baltimore, MD 21203
Dear Mr. Tiernan:
SUBJECT:
NRC DEVELOPMENT OF RELAPS MODEL OF CALVERT CLIFFS FROM EXISTING TRAC MODEL To facilitate completion of an NRC_ study supporting reevaluation of B&W plant safety, it is necessary for our staff to develop RELAPS analysis models of the three different PWR vendor plants to compare their plant responses and the demands placed'on safety equipment and operating staff for comparable plant transients.
In a discussion held on January 14,1987 tetween the NRC and Messrs. Steve Mirsky and Alex Marion of your staff, we agreed to cooperate to facilitate the completion of this study as described in'the enclosure.
Your cooperation, which is vital for the proper completion of this study, is greatly appreciated.
Sincerely, i
