Dear Sir:

My letter of August 14,'1987 provided a response to Mr. Steven A Varga's letter of August 7, 1987 concerning the adequacy of Catawba's Nuclear Service Water (RN)

System. Attached to that response was a simplified schematic of the RN System.

Subsequent review of this diagram has identified two valves (47A and 48B) that were mislabeled (labels reversed)

The description of these valves on page 2,

third paragraph of the August 14, 1987 response should be revised as follows:

"The crossover valve (47A or 48B) connected to the operable diesel generator on the same unit as the out of service diesel generator t

is closed and de-energized at the time of removal from service."

The change noted above does not affect the previous analysis or conclusions concerning the adequacy of Catawba's RN System.

1 The attached schematic provides a better representation of the shared header arrangement of the RN System.
