. Gentlemen:

By letter dated August 8,1986, Georgia Power Company (GPC) committed to the NRC to perform nondestructive examination of certain containment penetration assemblies. :The letter delineated the specific penetrations which would allow for.the closeout.of NRC 'I&E Bulletin 80-08 and NUREG/CR-3053 for.both Unit 1 and Unit 2, and indicated ~ the examination would be performed during the next scheduled maintenance / refueling outage for the respective units.

During the Fall 1986 Hatch Unit 2 maintenance / refueling outage the pertinent welds for the containment liner penetrations were examined.

A.P reported by letter on February 27, 1987, no significant indications were detected.

During the Spring 1987 maintenance / refueling outage, the remaining welds for. Unit 1 were examined.

Again, no significant indications were observed.

Georgia Power Company now concludes that the concerns raised by I&E Bulletin 80-08 are hereby closed for both Plant Hatch Units.

If you have any questions in this regard, please contact this office at any time.

Sincerely, NO NON L. T. Gucwa I
