i Three Mile Island Nuclear Station, Unit 2 (TMI-2) j Operating License No. DPR-73 Docket No. 50-320 NRC Bulletin No. 87-01 NRC Bulletin No. 87-01 addressed monitoring the thickness of pipe walls in high-energy single-phase and two-phase carbon steel piping systems.
GPU Nuclear has reviewed the information presented in NRC Bulletin No. 87-01 and has determined that the catastrophic pipe failure described is not applicable to THI-2 in the current recovery mode.
During the current TMI-2 recovery mode none of the systems addressed by NRC Bulletin No. 87-01 are operated.
Therefore, there is no monitoring program in place now, nor is there an intent to implement such a program during the balance of the cleanup.
If a decision is made to n
restart TMI-2, this NRC Bulletin will be re-evaluated.
Based on the above, no further action is required relative to TMI-2.
