During the period from May 29, 1987, to July 9, 1987, members of NRC Region I
l
staff conducted routine safety inspections at your facility. We documented the
l
results of that inspection in the enclosed report. At the conclusion of the
l
inspection period, Mr. D. Johnson.of my staff summarized the inspection
L,
findings with Mr. M. Ross and other members of your staff.
,
We note that your transition into and out of the letdown cooler replacement
l
outage to be relatively smooth and free of major equipment problems.
In that
'
l
regard, the pace of activities seemed to be appropriately controlled indicating
proper regard for nuclear safety, despite the urgency to return TMI-1 to power
operation for power demand reasons.
The instances of operator' performance
problems identified in this report were not excessive and were not highly
significant. Your management attention to these matters appears to be appro-
priate and should be continued toward final in-house resolution.
