A. Summary of Operating Experience for Unit 1 The Unit began this reporting period in Mode 1 at 98*4 power. It ]

remained in Mode 1 until a reactor trip occurred at 0531 on July 29.  !

The same day, the reactor was taken critical at 1641 and was synchronized to the grid at 2201. 3.t 0153 on July 31, a reactor trip occurred. The unit remained in Mode 3 for the rest of the reporting period.

The following is a tabular summary of all Licensee Event Reports for Byron Nuclear power Station, Unit One, submitted during the reporting period, July 1 through July 31, 1987. This information is provided pursuant to the reportable occurrence reporting requirements as set forth in 10CPR 50.73.

'.II. Monthly Raport for Byron Unit 2 A. Summary of Operating Experience for Unit 2 The. unit began this reporting period in Mode 1, ramping down to repair an EH system leak. At 0628 on July 1, the reactor was manually tripped. At 0800, July 1,' the EH System problem was corrected.. At 1403, July 1, the reactor was taken critical. The main. turbine was latched on July 1 at 2014. On July 2 at 0040, a turbine trip occurred because of a turbine throttle valve problem.

Mode 2 was entered at 0800, Mode 3 was entered at 2147 on July 2.

On July 3, Mode 4 was entered at 0510, Mode 3 was reentered at 1963.

On July 4, proper turbine throttle valve operation was verified. The reactor was taken critical at 1301 on July 4. On July 5, at 0115 the main generator was synchronized to the grid. By July 6, at 2303 the reactor was at 98% power. On July 8, at 1600, the 100 hr reliability run was started. On July 11, the steam generator moisture carry-over test was successfully completed. On July 14, at 1815, a 100% plant trip was conducted, per startup test 2.52.88. On July 16 at 0812, Mode 2 was reentered. On July 17, power was at 50s and. holding for chemirtry concerns. power was increased to 1135 MWe on July 18. On July 25, at 1215 a 30% load rejection was initiated per a startup

~ test. At 1216 on July 25 a reactor trip occurred. The reactor was taken critical at 2143 the same day. The. unit was synchronized to the grid at 0118 on July 26.. The unit remained in Mode 1 for the rest of the reporting period. ,
