GRAND GULF NUCLEAR STATION (GGNS), UNIT 1 - DESIGN FEATURES TO MITIGATE AN ATWS (TAC 59099)
By letters dated October 14, 1985, April 3, 1987, and June 22, 1987, the licensee (Mississippi Power & Light Company prior to December 20, 1986 and System Energy Resources, Inc. on or after that date) provided information regarding the design of features to mitigate the consequences of anticipated transients without scram (ATWS) for GGNS Unit 1.
The NRC staff has completed its review of these submittals on ATWS-related The staff's safety evaluation is enclosed. The staff con-design features.
cludes that the proposed design of ATWS-related systems (alternate rod injec-tion, standby liquid control system, and recirculation pump trip) are in com-pliance with 10 CFR 50.62 and are therefore acceptable. The staff will provide guidance on a generic basis regarding Technical Specifications for the ARI system.
