Dear Mr. McGurk:
This letter is to inform you that the University of California at Berkeley has decided to discontinue operation of the Berkeley Researth Reactor as of 1 January 1988.
We intend to decommission the reactor facility and after termination of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) License R-101 have it released by the NRC for unrestricted use. The reactor room, after being released for unrestricted use, will be used as a Nuclear Engineering teaching and research laboratory. Operations involving i
radioactive materials will be under the authorization of our State Radioactive Materials License 1333-62 or under a NRC Special Nuclear Material license.
