EXEMPTION FROM THE FIRE PROTECTION REQUIREMENTS OF SECTIONS III.G AND III.J OF-10 CFR-PART 50, APPENDIX R
'The Commission has issued the' enclosed exemptions from;the' requirements of
- Sections III.G and III.J of 10 CFR Part 50, Appendix R:in response to your letters dated September 16,-1985, June 13, 1986 and January 1, 1987.
This exemption, which is being forwarded to the Office.of the. Federal Register for publication, pertains to the adequacy of existing separation of components in the Primary Auxiliary, Service and Turbine Buildings and certain requirements for: emergency lighting in exterior plant areas in the event of fires at the
.Haddam' Neck Plant. A copy of our'related Safety Evaluation is enclosed.
I In addition to the enclosed exemption, CYAPC0 requested six additional

exemptions pertaining to non-fire-rated features of fire boundaries in the l-primary. auxiliary building, service building, turbine building and the diesel generator building.
The staff:has concluded that the circumstances of the requested exemptions are encompassed by guidance found in Generic Letter 86-10 and, therefore, no exemptions-are required.
These issues are discussed in greater detail'in Section 5.0 of the enclosed Safety Evaluation.
