S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Attn:

Document Control Desk Washington, DC 20555

Reference:

Beaver Valley Power Station, Unit No. 1 Docket No. 50-334, License No. DPR-66 Pressure Testing Hold Time Gentlemen:

This letter is intended to provid2 follow-up documentation of a meeting held on November 5, 1987, between Mr. G. Johnson and Mr. W.

Hazelton of the NRC staff and Mr. H. Askwith and Mrs. F. Askwith of HAFA International regarding a

reduction in hold time during Instrumented Inspection Technique (ITT) pressure testing.

The-reduction in hold time from two (2) hours to ten (10) minutes would apply to testing of portions of the Main Steam, Feedwater and Steam Generator Blowdown Systems shown in the attached drawings.

As a result of the above referenced meeting it was concluded that a

ten (10) minute hold time would be acceptable to the NRC for the ITT testing on the noted lines.

It was determined that the two-hour hold time requirements for insulated systems as described in HAFA Topical Report HAFA 135 P-A could be waived based on the following:

1.

In the course of approximately 18 hours2.083333e-4 days
0.005 hours
2.97619e-5 weeks
6.849e-6 months
during which time non-nuclear steam pressures are available to pressurize the

lines, leak. tests will be conducted at convenient pressure plateaus up to the maximum operating pressure.

2.

Instrumented and visual inspections will be performed-periodically throughout the test series.

If there are any questions concerning this matter, please contact my office.

Very truly yours, 8712160349 871207' M
